I’ve always been fascinated by the “Cabinets of Curiosities” or wunderkammer of Renaissance Europe, encyclopedic collections of objects whose categories were as yet undefined.
In more recent times, artists of the Surrealist movement also had their wunderkammer, usually defined by the strangeness of the objects they contained.
Nine Chapters is my variation of a wunderkammer, invented objects drawn into a loose narrative by virtue of their proximity to each other.
